Population and dissenters: The number of families in this Parish, as near I can possibly form a judgement, may be about one hundred <& sixty> more or less. dissenters we have none of any sort.
Public or charity schools: The late Mrs Pincomb of this county left us a Charity of ten pounds per annum for instructing poor Children in writing reading & working. For this the master & mistress are oblig’d to teach thirty boys & girls. The Children besides the Churches Catechism are made to learn that drawn up by Dr Woodward & are duly brought to Church every Prayer-day.
Alms-house, hospital or charitable endowment: We have eight pounds per annum left by the abovemention’d Mrs Pincomb; which is regularly paid at Christmas to four poor Families according to will without Fraud or abuse. we have besides the interest of forty pounds left to the Poor by Mr Joshua Tucker late Register of Barnstaple which is likewise duly paid at the same time. The minister & Churchwardens have the direction of each benefaction.
Frequency of divine service: Divine Service is perform’d in my Church twice every Lord’s – day with a sermon in the morning.
Frequency of communion: Six times in the year. twice at Christmas, twice at Easter once at Whitsunday & once at Michaelmas.
Number of communicants: As we do not take down the names of the Communicants I cannot positively say. at Easter last & the Sunday before there were at I guess at least six score.
Catechising of children: The Children are generally Catechiz’d every Sunday in the afternoon from Easter to mic[haelmas]. during the winter season the shortness of the day the badness of the roads & the great distance most of the people live from the Church render that duty altogether impracticable.
